Always loved writing and storytelling.

I never thought much of sales until...

I discovered direct-response. So fun trying to increase conversion on a piece. Seeing real, undeniable results from words you write.

No one's opinion.

Not even your TA opinion.

Just whether or not they respond.

Then trying to dissect why they respond. (Maybe we'll never know? For real, why someone responds to certain elements. We try to figure it out so we can monopolize and reproduce it... but who knows what goes on in the depths of the buying psyche... except the SHADOW of course. He knows.)

Sales People make the world go round.

Listen to Zig Zigler if you need to validate the truth of that statement.

Public service workers are nice but nothing happens until someone sells something.

I come from a long line of salesmen so when I found a career that combined my love of the written word and sales, I jumped into the deep end. Come on in, the water's fine.

Terri,

As you know, I was the 'salesperson' of our group. For obvious reasons!!!

I'm actually working on long copy right now for one of my products.

I'm sure my classmates can't believe it.

It's not all ellipses and bullet points.

Hello. My name is Terri. And...I'm a storyteller too.

I couldn't help it. It would creep up in the unlikeliest places. If I wasn't careful, it would take over my copy. It was a daily struggle.

I tried everything to make it stop...

Even tried writing "Cash-suckin', money-grabbin'" headlines. They only left me with an empty feeling.

Structured template copy didn't work either. The emotion was gone.

But then during Shaune's program, I realized that my storytelling didn't have to shut down completely. It only had to be re-directed.

It was one of the happiest moments in my life!

So Sherry, you may have to reign in Storytelling. But it can be controlled. With practice.

-Terri

P.S. (I would venture a guess that attempting to curb my storytelling tendencies cost Shaune a small fortune in Tylenol)

I thought you might appreciate seeing the follow-up banter between Sherry and I.

Yes...

I did say Sherry isn't far behind. A real testimony of how great a copywriter you will become. You are "really" paying attention -- really getting it... quickly!

You're not hindered by being "ingrained" by how "you think it is."

Tres bien!

It really will be in your best interest to put as much time in over the next few weeks, as possible.

It's leverage.

Something like this...

Every hour you spend now will save you a full week of work after the program.

Thanks for helping to start my day with an internal smile,

Shaune

You're welcome for the laugh. That's another thing I appreciate in our calls--especially last night's--that you keep things light and you have a sense of humor.

Thanks for making my day about the salesman comment. That means SO MUCH and really gives me encouragement as I forge ahead--not only into my revisions--but my new career as well. It amazes me how much I learn with each call... attests to your ability as a copywriting coach.

Thanks for the testimonial the "every hour spent"--that is well heeded. I plan on delving in every single night and weekend!

Have a great Wed,
Sherry
